Brain Powered Games Africa

Brain Powered Games Africa is a collection of games developed by the GEL Lab at Michigan State University to serve as computerized cognitive rehabilitation therapy, currently being used in clinical research trials in Malawi and Uganda.

A specific contribution I made to this project was restructuring the code in order to allow researchers to define custom parameters for studies. This entails the ability to define the order and duration of the minigames that are presented, and create a specific preset of these settings for use in a study. I added this flexibility to a previously hard-coded system, along with creating a user interface to define the settings within the app, and the custom saving and loading functionality required to support these changes. This makes it significantly easier to create new studies with the collection of games designed to focus on specific areas, for instance.

Additionally, I worked on the existing Village Builder game. My contributions included expanding upon the save and load functionality to allow players to leave and resume the game mid-level without losing in-level progress. I also fixed a variety of bugs, which gave me extensive experience with the process of debugging and testing within Unity that I can apply to other projects going forward.
